Cub Scouts is fun for the whole family... and there's no better Cub Scout Pack than 923! Not sure how to get started? Here is some helpful information for those new to scouting.

How to Join
The best time to join is during one of our two annual recruiting events where we present background information on the scouting program. The Fall Roundup in September is traditionally when most boys join, though the Spring Roundup in April is an excellent time to join if you want to take advantage of our several Summer Camp opportunities. These events are held in Elda's old gymnasium.

There is no requirement to join at Spring or Fall Roundup. You can contact our Cubmaster any time (see below) for an application.

To start off in scouting you'll need to fill out an application, pay dues, and buy some things. Dues pay for your membership for the calendar year. Currently our pack dues are $30 per year, which is pro-rated if you join in the middle of the year. This money pays for your membership in Boy Scouts of America, your subscription to Boys Life magazine, accident insurance, and what remains goes to the pack to pay for supplies.

As previously mentioned, you'll have to buy a few things, first of which is the uniform. Cub Scouts believes that the uniform is important for making boys feel that they are part of the organization. You can visit our local scout shop to buy your uniform. There is no requirement that the uniform be brand new. A boy is free to wear a uniform that has been handed down to him. Our uniform requirements are:

  • Uniform Shirt
  • Uniform Neckerchief & Neckerchief Slide
  • Dan Beard Council Patch
  • Pack Numerals Patch (we have a nice custom patch available)
  • Den Number Patch (we will provide once your son has been assigned to a den)
The other thing that your son will need is a handbook. There is a different book for each Cub Scout rank. It provides details and a place to record the activities your son can do to earn his rank. These handbooks are also available at the scout shop. The closest one is the Tri-County Scout Shop, 7255 Dixie Highway Fairfield, OH 45014. (513)942-8200. Their hours are:
Mon, Tues, Fri: 10am - 6pm
Wed - Thurs: 10am - 8pm
Sat: 9am - 5pm

Contact our Cubmaster
If you have more questions, or would like to join, you can call our Cubmaster, Kip Shaffer at 868.1367 (evenings).
